Robert J. Mascenik died January 10, 2005, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 51.
Mr. Mascenik was born in Perth Amboy, and resided in Colonia before moving to the Somerset section of Franklin in 2002. He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School (Class of 1971), Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. (Class of 1975), and New York Law School (Class of 1978).
Mr. Mascenik was a counselor at law and for a short time worked as a public defender for Woodbridge Township. He also worked as an adjunct professor at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., teaching film. He was a communicant of St. Matthias R.C. Church in Somerset. Mr. Mascenik was a past president of the Woodbridge Township Board of Education.
Mr. Mascenik was currently the New Jersey district governor of Kiwanis International. He served on its board of directors for 17 years and became its president in 1991. In 1993- 1994 he served one term as a lieutenant governor. He was a past president and vice president for the N.J. District Kiwanis Foundation. He served as a division counselor. Mr. Mascenik was also a certified Kiwanis International trainer and served as legal counselor to the district on various occasions.
Mr. Mascenik was the Kiwanis Club's advisor to the John F. Kennedy Memorial High School Key Club in Iselin and was a board member of the John E. Toolan Kiddie Keep Well Camp in Edison.
Mr. Mascenik is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kathy (the former Kathleen Bignell) and their daughter, Jacqueline, of Somerset; his mother, Gloria Mascenik of Colonia, and his sister and brother-in-law, Melody and Richard Wenger of Montville.
