Giving Programs

From supporting sponsored youth programs to funding the Youth Leadership Training Seminar at the College of New Jersey, your Kiwanis Foundation sponsors a wide range of state initiatives and programs. Indeed, it is a vehicle by which all members of the New Jersey District can reach beyond their homes, clubs, and communities to make a real difference in New Jersey.

Did you know that as a member of the New Jersey District of Kiwanis International, you are also a member of the Foundation?

Today, the Foundation's assets are approaching $100,000, but that is only a fraction of the dollars needed to address the many needs identified throughout our district. We must increase our Foundation's assets to provide financial support to meet a growing number of urgent needs.

One of the ways you can help make a difference in the future of people of our district is to become a Carrington-Swain Fellow of the New Jersey Kiwanis Foundation.

Carrington Swain Fellowship Award

The New Jersey Kiwanis Foundation Board of Trustees created the Carrington-Swain Fellowship Award in 1998. It is named in honor of the two Kiwanis International Presidents from our great district; Dr. William J. Carrington (1934-1935) from the Kiwanis Club of Atlantic City, and Charles A. "Nick" Swain (1963-1964) from the Kiwanis Club of Cape May.

One may become a member of the Fellowship by making or having a single $500 contribution or becoming a Sustaining Member through a minimum initial contribution of $200 and a pledge to contribute the $300 balance within three years. Additional contributions of $500 will also be appropriately recognized.

First time Carrington-Swain Fellowship members receive a medallion bearing the likeness of the two presidents suspended from a green and white ribbon. It is intended to be worn at high visibility District and International functions. Recipients will also be periodically named in the New Jersey Kiwanis Journal.

G.I.F.T. -- Get Involved for Tomorrow

To meet these needs the Foundation has also established a comprehensive endowment program; one that will enable more and more Kiwanians and friends of Kiwanis to participate in this exciting new venture.

Endowment Giving makes it possible for individuals (as well as corporations, and family foundations) to accomplish more with their gifts, and, at the same time, to achieve financial and estate planning benefits through careful gift planning.

How you can participate in Our G.I.F.T. Endowment Program?

Outright gifts of cash are the simplest way to support the District Foundation and its endowment program. But there are other popular ways, often called planned gifts, that can help you achieve personal financial objectives when you make the gift. Some planned gifts enable you to reduce taxes in a more strategic way, others may help you unlock yourself from low-yielding stocks and possibly increase your retirement income. Planned gifts are sometimes regarded as “future gifts” because they often mature only after the donor has enjoyed lifetime benefits from the gift property.

Among the more popular planned gifts:

  • Bequests to the foundation in your will
  • Gifts of appreciated securities
  • Charitable gift annuities
  • Gifts of life insurance
  • Gifts of real estate and personal property
  • Charitable remainder trusts
  • "Skip A Generation" gifts

As a person who made a G.I.F.T., you will be recognized at the district convention with a ribbon for your nametag, as well as a certificate. Additionally, your name, as well as other G.I.F.T. contributors, will be published periodically in the New Jersey Kiwanis Journal. (Of course, all requests for anonymity will be honored.)

To enroll, call President Jack Wilson at 856-833-0401.

    * Please check with your financial advisor to determine which gift method might be most advantageous to you.
